The following simple exercises are for nonprofits interested in exploring the possibilities of earned-income ventures. These are designed to increase your understanding of earned-income venturing and to help you self-identify and assess your organization's current assets and the opportunities they may present.

• Complete the exercises as part of a group process. We encourage the assemblage of a small ad hoc team consisting of the organization's senior staff, board members with business experience and, if possible, investors familiar with the nonprofit.
   
• The exercises should be completed independently by each member of the team and then shared in a meeting of the entire group.
   
• There are no right or wrong answers. This group process is designed to gather a variety of perspectives. Participants are encouraged to go with your first impressions based on the information at hand.
   
• We suggest that you utilize an experienced, impartial facilitator for your group meetings. The NBS team members are available to assist you with this process.
