What Is A Business Plan?

A business plan is simply a road map that explores the who, what, when, where, why, how and how much of your identified earned-income opportunity.

Your business plan is your "grant request" to underwrite your venture.

There are three core elements that must be addressed in the writing of any solid business plan. These are the 3 M’s of business — money, markets and management.

    Litzler Cartoon
  • In Money you want to convince the prospective donor/investor that you have a measurable earned-income growth plan that will diversify your development needs and lead to long-term sustainable growth.
  • In Markets you want to demonstrate to the prospective donor/investor that you have thoroughly researched your market and know the key factors that will distinguish you from your competition.
  • In Management you want to assure the prospective donor/investor that you have clearly assessed your key personnel needs and have now, or have a plan to acquire, the human resources your venture will need for success.

The following business plan tool rests on a three-legged stool. A three-legged stool is firm and provides perfect balance.

A good business plan needs to give balanced attention to each of the three legs of money, markets and management. It must provide a clear picture of your proposed venture, a convincing road map for its operations and persuade the donor/investor to give you the funding you need to begin or expand your earned-income operations.
